The railway police in Mumbai have set up a separate wing for a speedy inquiry into bogus rail tickets, passes and availing tickets under the VIP quota by submitting bogus letters.

"In the recent past, there has been an increase in cases of bogus tickets and passes and fake letters sent for booking tickets under the VIP quota. With a view to curb this and for a speedy inquiry into such matters, we have set up a separate Economic Offences Wing (EOW)," government railway police (GRP) commissioner Tukaram Chavan told PTI today.

The racket came to light when one Sayed sent forged letters under the name of a Karnataka minister seeking to book tickets under the VIP quota.

"Sayed had booked tickets on four occasions under the VIP quota by sending forged letters to the booking office in Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) between October and December last year," Chavan said, adding such cases result in heavy losses for the railways.
