An unknown Hindi speaking person allegedly threatened to kill Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Friday.

Following the threat, MNS filed a complaint with Shivaji Park police.

Chetan Pednekar, an MNS official, said, “Around 11.30 am, we received a phone call at the party headquarter in Rajgad from a mobile phone. The caller said that he was keeping an eye on Raj’s movements since the past four days and will target him soon. The caller was speaking in Hindi.”

Interestingly, a former Shiv Sena official Dutta Divekar, on Wednesday, had filed a complaint at Matunga police station claiming that he had overheard a few people plotting to kill Thackeray. In his complaint Divekar stated: “I saw four people holding a revolver and discussing a plot to kill Raj Thackeray. They were travelling in a black car when I spotted them at Dadar.”

ACP (Dadar division) Balkrishna Bhange confirmed that a complaint had been filed in this regard. He said, “We have registered a non-cognisable offence case at Shivaji Park police station. We are investigating the matter.”

During a press conference on Friday, Thackeray slammed the state government’s decision to withdraw his Z-category security. “Police security is provided to a person depending on the danger he/she is in. A police committee decides who the security is provided to. I do not understand why the state government removed it. I believe they did so because of political hatred,” he said.

The state had reduced Thackeray’s security to Y-category after MNS activists attacked north Indian students who had come to the city for a railway exam. Irked by the decision, Thackeray refused to take any police cover.

However, the cops announced that he would once again get Z-category security after a youth from Patna, who allegedly wanted to kill the MNS chief, was gunned down in Kurla on Monday.
