Rajan gang arms supplier held in Mumbai

The officers of Anti-Terrorism Squad have arrested a man who was allegedly supplying weapons to Chhota Rajan gang members in the city.

The officers of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have arrested a man who was allegedly supplying weapons to Chhota Rajan gang members in the city.

The arrested person had supplied huge cache of arms to four of Rajan gang members a few days ago.

The arrested person has been identified as Rakesh Nagesh Shetty, 32, resident of Janki Niwas, Kopri Village in Koparkhairane area of Navi Mumbai.

According to the ATS sources, specific information was received by the Kalachowkie Unit of ATS about Shetty being involved in supplying of weapons to Rajan gang members.

Accordingly he was arrested from his Navi Mumbai residence on Saturday by the team of inspectors Dinesh Kadam and Sukhlal Varpe. The police have seized one magazine, 24 live bullets, mobile phone and cash from his residence.

"We have specific information that Shetty had recently supplied a revolver, pistol, 13 live bullets and a handgun to four men having association with the notorious criminal Vijay Kedari. It is a well-known fact that Kedari is a close associate of Rajan," said an ATS official.

The ATS officials are now investigating the source of weapons and also the purpose of ferrying huge quantity of arms cache in the city. "We are investigating whether Rajan had ordered any major supari killing in the city, as Shetty had supplied huge cache of arms to Rajan's foot-soldiers," the official said.

In January, the ATS officials had arrested Uttar Pradesh based Avinash Prasiddha Narayan Mishra from Oshiwara with two pistols, five revolvers and 28 live bullets.

"Mishra was known to have links with the Rajan gang. He had come to the city to supply the weapons to the gang," ATS chief Rakesh Maria had said.
