A 28-year-old real estate agent, who allegedly sodomised a 9-year-old from Airoli, was arrested by Rabale police on Monday.
According to the police, Amit Dwivedi, a resident of sector 8 in Airoli, took the boy to his flat at Ganesh Prem CHS, around 7.30pm, on the pretext of cleaning the floors and promised him Rs100 for the job. However, once the boy entered the flat, Dwivedi closed all doors and windows and allegedly sodomised him.
“The victim stays at sector 20 of Airoli and belongs to a poor family. The accused has known him for the last several months. Since the young lad was in need of money, he instantly agreed to clean Dwivedi’s room for Rs100. After the crime, the accused threatened him of dire consequences if he spoke about it with anyone else,” said a police officer from Rabale police station.
The boy, however, narrated the entire episode to his parents after reaching home. His father, who works a security guard at a housing society in the vicinity, then approached the police and registered a case against Dwivedi.
“Following the complaint, we arrested the accused from his residence within a few hours. He has been booked under sections 377 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 3,4,7 and 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012,” the officer said.
Dwivedi was produced before the judicial court on Tuesday afternoon. “We sent the victim to the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation hospital in Vashi for medical examinations and are awaiting the reports. No criminal record of the accused has been found so far,” another police officer said.
