Reply sought from Mumbai club for 'ill treating' transgender

On April 2, the management of Bombay Gymkhana had asked Laxmi, who was attending a party in the club, to leave.

Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) today took suo motu cognizance and issued summons to the Bombay Gymkhana for not permitting transgender activist Laxmi Tripathi in the club.

The SHRC today took cognizance of the issue and issued summons to the club observing that there has been discrimination.

The Gymkhana has to explain on what grounds Laxmi was asked to leave from the party within a month. 

Laxmi had threatened to lodge a police complaint against the club for gender discrimination. 

"I had requested to be allowed to talk to the CEO of the gymkhana and resolve the issue but the management curtly directed me to leave," Laxmi said.
