Republic Day 2019: Style mantra

Women in the MMR are increasingly buying jewellery that can be worn across work and social scenarios

Until recently, most working women in Mumbai maintained two sets of jewellery – practical, comfortable, daytime stuff for the office and heavier items for social occasions. However, the past few years witnessed a major transformation in work schedules and the number of women in senior executive and managerial positions. Consequently, along with changing dress codes, there has also definitely been a shift towards lighter and more stylish pieces of jewellery.

As double shifts, odd working hours, late nights and all-night work gradually became acceptable for not just call center employees but just about every ambitious and motivated person in the private sector looking to get ahead (women included), professional and social lives have begun to overlap and at times merge.

From a situation where office life and personal life were distinct, socialising with office colleages has become the new mantra. Similarly, with people immediately moving from client meetings to social functions, where’s the time to change in between the two? So obviously, chandelier or tear drop shaped earrings that can double up as a pendant and enhance the look of a plain gold chain are gaining in popularity by the day.
