The next time you need to get to Bombay Hospital avenue from MG Road, you may not need to make a detour of over 600 metre. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is widening the road between MG Road and Vithaldas Thackersey Marg and making it two-way, to ensure that citizens do no have to take a circuitous route, especially during emergency cases.

"We are widening the road and making it two-way. The road should be open to public by mid-June," said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant municipal commissioner of A Ward under whose jurisdiction the area falls.

The work, said officials, will ensure that people have faster access to the hospital, and was undertaken following demands from the area. A 200-metre stretch of the road that is 40 feet wide is being widened to 70 feet.

For the revamp, the BMC has shifted six stalls and will cut four trees and transplanting two of them.

"Some work is complete and the rest will be done soon," said an officer from A ward who is working on the project.
