A 22-year-old medical student was allegedly thrashed by a TV actor for showing him the middle finger following a road rage in Khar (W). The Khar police have registered a non-cognisable offence against the actor and said the case did not warrant a first information report as both parties had reacted aggressively in a fit of anger.

On Wednesday, complainant Rutviik Khakhar, a student of Grant Medical College and JJ Hospital, was travelling with his brother in a Scorpio around 9 pm on Link Road when the alleged incident occured.

It all started at junction after the actor allegedly jumped a signal and blocked the Scorpio’s path.

“My brother was driving the car. The actor took a wrong turn and went ahead of us. His car was not moving. Despite honking, he refused to move for a very long time. I abused him and showed him the middle finger when we overtook him,” said Khakhar.

However, the actor is believed to have told the police that a mechanical glitch in his Honda Accord had forced him to halt at the spot for some time. The brothers stopped at an eatery ahead.

Khakhar told the cops that the actor, who was with a female, reached the spot and got out of his car. “He was trailing us. He came out of the car, took out his belt, watch and phone. He then twisted my arm and grabbed my collar. He abused me and held my neck.”

Khakhar said the actor allegedly told him that had a woman not been with him he would have smashed Khakhar’s head and ran over him. The would-be-doctor said he suffered bruises because of the alleged assault.

The student approached the Khar police. Inspector Sanjay More said, “The student provoked the actor by abusing him and making indecent gesture. The matter does not warrant an FIR as it was a case of road rage where both the parties were at fault.”
