Television and film actor Ronit Roy who was involved in an accident on Thursday morning, fled from the Kokilaben hospital, after admitting three members of a family injured in the incident. Roy, later surrendered, the police said.
Roy, who was on his way to work towards Kandivli, met with an accident when his Mercedes rammed into another car carrying four of a family.
According to the police records, the incident occurred near the Sab TV office in Andheri. However, Roy in his statement denied any wrongdoing on his part and stated that it was the WagonR's fault.
Police officials said that the occupants of the car, Deepak Darera, 60, his wife Kanta, 56, and their two daughters Sneha, 29, and Puja, 24, were injured in the incident.
Sources revealed that the family was on their way to Matheran, when the accident occurred. The victim’s family, however, refused to comment.
The actor helped them to get admitted to the hospital. The medical test conducted on Roy ruled out drink driving.
Roy also runs a well-known security agency that provides security to high profile people in the city.
The police said that Roy has been charged for rash and negligent driving under the Indian Penal Code.
“The accused was presented in court after his arrest and was granted bail,” the police said. Police Inspector V Rathod of Amboli police station said, “We are conducting further investigations in the case.”
