MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government on Monday handed over Rs 17.80 crore by way of subsidy to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, to be used primarily for repairing city roads.
Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said, while handing the cheque to BMC officials during a workshop, that the money be used for filling up the potholes -- which had earned BMC the Bombay High Court's wrath.
Taking a suo-motu notice of the moonscape of Mumbai roads, the High Court had on August 16 gave an ultimatum to various authorities looking after the roads to repair them by August 30.
