Even as officials from Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) finally stopped dredging and concretisation works being carried out in Dahisar river inside the forest area on Thursday, activists have now demanded a detailed scientific study to understand the damage and how the river can be restored.

It was on 1 June that members of River March first stopped the ongoing work after following up with forest officials for almost six hours, following which they even sent a legal notice the next day. However, by Tuesday last week, they learnt that the department was carrying out work and hence a delegation of citizens met Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) Anwar Ahmed on Thursday morning.

On his part Ahmed said, "Instructions to stop all work has been given including removal of the iron bars jutting out of concrete blocks. Since the work was being done to improve the flow of the river as well as ensure no flooding like last year we have decided to even consult experts from IIT-Mumbai for better and proper planning," said Ahmed.
