Fatima High School in Vidyavihar

The office of the deputy director of Mumbai region has issued a second show cause notice to Fatima High School stating that it would take action against the school if it does not respond to its earlier notice.

The state education department has recently warned a Vidyavihar school of strict action for failing to respond to the complaints made against it with respect to the admission process. The office of the deputy director of Mumbai region has issued a second show cause notice to Fatima High School stating that it would take action against the school if it does not respond to its earlier notice.

In 2016, Ved Tiwari, a local activist, had written to the state education department alleging that the school was not following the norms with respect to admissions. Following the complaint, an inquiry was conducted in November 2016 which revealed several inadequacies in the admission process like lack of properly maintained accounts, absence of an admission portal, etc. The school was then sent a show cause notice in December 2016. With no reponse from the school, it is now likely to face action.

"Since 2016, there have been a lot of complaints from parents about the school charging exorbitant fees for admission. It does not follow an admission schedule and continues to admit students until September by which time most schools are in the middle of the academic year. The staff also speaks very rudely to parents and there is no transparency in the admission process," said Tiwari, Vice President of the Maharashtra Navanirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS), who had taken up the issue on behalf of parents.

Despite repeated calls and messages, officials from the school remained unavailable for comment.
