Shahji Solunke took charge as the new Pune rural superintendent of police on Thursday afternoon. This follows the transfer of outgoing SP Sandeep Karnik to Mumbai.
Karnik had asked for a transfer to Mumbai in the aftermath of the controversial Maval police firing, which had resulted in the death of three farmers.
Solunke was till recently the superintendent of police of Aurangabad.
Speaking to media persons in his office on Thursday, Solunke said, “I am returning to Pune after 22 years. In 1986 I was in posted in Pune rural police as a probationary officer. I believe public interaction is the best way to maintain law and order.”
