Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray on Friday indicated that the party would intensify its agitation on some establishments retaining “Bombay” in their brand names.
After the recent incidents where name boards of Bombay Scottish School (in Mahim) and Bombay Dyeing were blackened, and demonstrations were held by sainiks in front of Bombay Stock Exchange, Thackeray justified the agitation. Regarding the school, Thackeray said, “Our opposition is not to the school but to its name. What is derogatory in Mumbai? How much patience we should have? We have given them a warning.”
He had a different world view on Bombay High Court though. He said the state government had passed a resolution — but never implemented — renaming it as Maharashtra High Court. He said, “We will bring this fact to the honourable court’s notice,” he said.
Thackeray also ridiculed deputy chief minister RR Patil’s claim that the Sena has insulted Shivaji Maharaj by naming its vada pav as Shiv vada. “Patil does not oppose sambhaji bidi. Then why should he have any objection to our Shiv vada?” he wondered.
