Hundreds of commuters on the Central Railway's (CR) suburban route were stranded this afternoon due to a technical snag, officials said.
The train services were disrupted at around 12 pm between Dadar and Chinchpokli stations due to signaling problem at Parel. Nearly 15 train services were affected, CR spokesman AK Jain said.
After waiting for an hour, many commuters got off the trains and started walking on the tracks in the scorching sun to reach the nearest stations.
"The worst affected were the senior citizens and women as they had to jump off the trains and walk to the nearby stations. There was no announcement in the public address system in the trains," Manoj Mehta, a former member of the Suburban Railway Users' Consultative Committee, told PTI.
Commuters coming from distant suburbs had no option but to walk in the sweltering heat to board the Western Railway trains by buying fresh tickets, Subhash Padwalkar, a commuter from suburban Vikhroli, said.
Services were restored at around 1.05 pm, Jain said.
