The incident took place around 4.45am yesterday. Lilavati, 40, and Ajit, 16, were asleep in the house along with father Mahendra Yadav, 45, and brother Sujit, 21.

A 16-year-old boy and his mother were brutally stabbed by two unidentified men in their home in Kandivli (East) on Thursday morning. While the boy succumbed to his injuries, the mother is still battling for life at Bhagwati Hospital. The family and police are baffled regarding the motive.

The incident took place around 4.45am yesterday. Lilavati, 40, and
Ajit, 16, were asleep in the house along with father Mahendra Yadav, 45, and brother Sujit, 21.  While Sujit is a TYBCom student at Thakur College, Kandivli, Ajit was a Std XI student at Nirmala College Malad.  According to police, at 4.45 am, Sujit got up to use the toilet and latched the house from outside. Minutes later, two unidentified masked men entered the house and stabbed Ajit on his chest, hands and head. Hearing Ajit’s screams, Lilavati woke up and she, too, was stabbed on the chest and abdomen.

Mahendra said, “I woke up to the sound of my wife’s screams and found that she and Ajit were bleeding and shouting for help. On seeing me, both attackers ran away, shoving aside Sujit who had just returned.”

With the help of neighbours Sujit rushed Lilavati and Ajit to Bhagwati Hospital.

“We took them first to a private hospital, but they were denied admission. We then took them to Bhagwati. Ajit died on the way,” neighbour Prabhavati Devi said.

Mahendra said, “I had taken a loan for my sons’ education as they wanted to study. They are simple boys. I do not understand who could have done this.”

A case has been registered against unknown persons under section 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 452 (house-trespass) of the IPC.
