If all goes well, you can soon avail of cashless facility for an operation in nursing homes.

According to the ongoing talks between the General Insurance Public Sector Association (Gipsa) and hospital authorities on cashless facility, accreditation of hospitals and nursing homes will be one of the major factors for getting cashless service.

The Gipsa along with hospital authorities and National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (Nabh) will form a committee to accredit nursing homes and allow them to offer cashless service for surgeries.

“Nabh does not have an accreditation system for nursing homes. A new committee will be formed which will have members from Nabh, Gipsa and nursing homes that will do accreditation for the nursing homes in the city,” said Dr Rajeev Walawalkar, president of Associate Medical Consultants.
The NABH is an offshoot of Quality Control of India (QCI), an autonomous body set up by the Government of India.

Mumbai has 1,500-odd nursing and maternity homes. “The idea is to get accreditation for all nursing homes. This will not only boost the quality of health service but also ensure that defaulters are punished.” added Walawalkar.
