Some of the institute’s illustrious alumni were felicitated at the event

This is the first major attempt by the alumni association to recognise the work of architects, a recognition which is much needed, says Rajiv Mishra

The DNA Sir JJ Architecture Awards 2018 began with the lamp lighting ceremony in the presence of Meeta Rajiv Lochan, Principal Secretary, Higher and Technical Education. Rajat Kumar, CRO, DNA said, "The DNA brand has always believed in keeping the world connected and we continue to inspire with such initiatives."

Rajiv Mishra, Principal, Sir JJ College of Architecture said, "This is the first major attempt by the alumni association to recognise the work of architects, a recognition which is much needed."

One of the event's highlights was a panel discussion titled 'Transformation in the field of architecture and the role of Sir JJ College' moderated by Mishra with participation from the prestigious alumni — Prem Nath, Shirish Sukhatme, Gurunath Dalvi and Ratan Batliboi. They discussed the rapid changes in the field of architecture teaching and praxis. Gurunath Dalvi remembered the old days when sketches would be made on paper. "Today there is technology but nothing can beat the speed of hand," added Nath.

With the changing structure of cities, Batliboi said it's necessary to have interdisciplinary education which includes studying sociology and economy. Sukhatme spoke about the need to look at real issues and understand architectural logistics.

This was followed by felicitating some of the institute's illustrious alumni including Rusi Khambatta, Pheroze Kudianavala, Kamu Iyer, Atul C Desai, Shakti Parmar and Prem Nath among others. A coffee table book titled 'Celebration of Architecture' was unveiled at the event too.
