Automotive design challenge is aimed to encourage young students to opt for automobile design as a career and to offer the Indian automobile manufacturers with talented Indian designers.

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), the apex body of the Indian vehicle manufacturers, showcased the winning products of automotive design challenge (ADC) for young engineering and design students from across the country on Saturday.

The results were announced on Friday night and the products were displayed as a part of the Pune Design Festival.

ADC is aimed to encourage young students to opt for automobile design as a career and to offer the Indian automobile manufacturers with talented Indian designers.

Siam chairman, CV Raman, said aesthetic aspect plays a vital role apart from the engine and performance in a vehicle.

“Siam always believes styling and designing of vehicles to be an integral part of the whole manufacturing process and has always recognised and encouraged designers, who are helping to develop India as a destination for automotive styling and designing.

“ADA would offer a platform to young students who aspire to make it big in the field of automotive designing which will eventually benefit the automotive industry in the long term,” he said.

ADC’s theme of this year, personal mobility for Urban India-2016, is based on the challenges that would be faced in 2016 related to environment, fuel, speed and style statement.

The first round of jury meeting of the ADC took place in New Delhi where 10 best designs of students were shortlisted among more than 100 entries.

The contest will have two evaluation rounds based on originality of the concept, clarity of awareness based on quality of model, relativity between sketch and model, and detailing of the model.
