Aditya Thackeray, president of the Yuva Sena, has demanded that grounds with cricket clubs be provided water at nominal or residential rates. As a rule, the BMC does not supply water to grounds and gardens, while those seeking a water connection must pay at commercial rate.

Accompanied by members of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), Aditya met Mumbai mayor Sunil Prabhu and municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte on Friday. He requested the civic chief that all grounds with cricket clubs or any other sports facilities be provided water at residential rates. To this, the civic chief suggested that the proposal can be brought on the floor of the civic general body meeting and then accepted after due procedure.

“At least three state government grounds – Oval Maidan, Cross Maidan and Azad Maidan— and two grounds under BMC’s jurisdiction — Shivaji Park at Dadar and Ramesh Dadkar Maidan at Matunga — should be provided water at concessional rates,” said Aditya.

Prabhu seconded him, saying, “We can provide storm-water drains, sewerage lines and water facilities to these grounds. Also, the BMC can install rain-water harvesting plants on them.”
