The Symbiosis Secondary School (SSS) won the Pune round of the all-India ‘Quiz Italia 2011’, held at the Kargil Hall in Range Hills on Friday.
The competition was held in 10 cities with support from the Italian Embassy to mark the 150th anniversary of the country’s unification.
Winners Pranav Gokhale and Dhananjay Jagtap, standard IX students of SSS, will take part in the national finals to be held in New Delhi on October 17.
‘Quiz Italia 2011’ focuses on Italy and is being organised by the Institute Italiano di Cultura (New Delhi) along with Del Monte.
Both the winners claimed that they had just two days to prepare for the competition. “With so little time to prepare, we divided the subjects according to the theme of the quiz, which was Italian food and culture,” Jagtap said.
Of the more than 50 schools that participated in the Pune round, six teams were selected for the final round. All teams had to go through a written round where they had to answer 20 questions, including visual clues. St Anne’s and Kalmadi High School finished second and third in the final round.
