In order to make the beach garbage-free for the morning walkers and visitors, Juhu Angels along with dna eco-Ganesha team will be starting an initiative to clean up the Juhu beach on Friday, September 16.
Speaking about the clean-up done after the last day of Ganesh Visarjan by Juhu Angels since five years, Larson Fernandes, said, "Begin a morning walker, I felt very bad when I saw the shabby condition of beach after the last day of immersion. When we can take care of the idols for 11 days, it is our responsibility to take care of the idols after immersion too. We voluntarily not just clean-up the beach and make it garbage-free but also try to encourage others to participate with us."
According to Fernandes, the number of participants have kept on increasing with every passing year. In 2015, garbage was cleared in over 60 trucks, which also helped the BMC workers to clean-up the area.
While, another member who joined the initiative, Stanly Britto, COO of ISS facility services India, said, "Through this initiative, we are giving back to the society. Soon after the immersion, the pollution level in water increases due to the PoP idols, garlands and other immersed materials. We aim to make our beach garbage-free even before people throng the beach for morning walks. We are trying to connect with the society by spreading this social message. Many employees from my company have participated voluntarily the initiative."
This year, the volunteers are expecting a footfall of over 800 volunteers.
