Teacher killed for alleged love affair in Delhi's Jahangirpuri area

The Ankit's family allege that his relationship with a woman from another community could be the reason. However, the police are not ruling out the possibility of an old enmity in the area.

A 31-year-old man, Ankit Kumar, was shot dead by two unidentified assailants in Jahangirpuri area of north-west Delhi on Monday morning. Though the motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained, the Ankit's family allege that his relationship with a woman from another community could be the reason. However, the police are not ruling out the possibility of an old enmity in the area.

Ankit, a resident of Mahendra Park, ran a tuition centre run in Jahangirpuri. When he reached the centre to conduct his classes on Monday morning at around 8 am, he was attacked inside the classroom by the unidentified assailants.

"Two masked men entered the tuition centre and shot at him from behind aiming his head. After that they fled from the spot," said Ankit's brother, Jaiparvesh Kumar, a teacher at the same centre.

Two students were reportedly present in the classroom at the time of the incident. After they informed his family about the incident who rushed to the spot and found Ankit. A PCR call was made and he was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

Ankit's family told police that he was in a relationship with a woman and both the families had no objection to the same. However, the brother of the woman was not in favour of their relationship. "My brother was in a relationship with a Muslim girl for the last 10 years. The duo decided to tie the knot in 2012 and had conveyed the same to both the families. Both the sides were happy with the relationship and we were making marriage plans. However, the brother of the woman was not in favour of their love relationship as they belonged to different religions," victim sister said.

However, according to the police, who have launched an investigation into the case, the motive behind the killing is not clear yet.

"As of now, we can't see any no communal angle to this murder. We are investigating the case from personal rivalry angle. We are interrogating several people, including the girlfriend and all her family members as a part of the investigation. CCTV footage is also being scanned," said DCP North West Aslam Khan.
