The infamous monsoon is expected to usher in fifteen days.

Although the Thane Municipal Corporation was late in beginning its pre-monsoon work, all the officials and contractors have been warned of stringent action in case of an untoward incident during the rainy season due to lapses in carrying out their duty.

The infamous monsoon is expected to usher in fifteen days. However, it was not until the middle of May that the TMC began its work to avoid the problem of water logging in the area. In a meeting held with various agencies on Thursday, Sanjeev Jaiswal, TMC commissioner, warned, “If there are any accidents or lapses during the monsoon due to TMC’s work, the concerned officials and contractors of the area will be held responsible for it and action will be taken against them.”

Various stakeholders— the RTO (Regional Transport Office), MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited), Mahanagar Gas, MSEB (Maharashtra State Electricity Board), traffic police, and railway officials— were included in the meeting with the TMC on Thursday. All of these stakeholders were asked to coordinate in case of emergencies. They were briefed on mobilising men and machine to reach a spot of emergency.

Further, the doctors at the TMC’s Chhatrapati Shivaji hospital were asked to stock medicines for snake bites and dog bites. MSEB was asked to make arrangements for adequate electricity in case of a disrupted power supply during heavy downpour and lightning.
