Around 300 orphan kids from Thane on Children's Day would perform yoga early morning and would later dance on Bollywood numbers followed by a special dinner, apart from their daily routine of studies, sports and gossip sessions. The Maa Niketan Orphanage at Pokhran road of Thane has 300 kids, either abandoned by parents or have only old grandparents to look after them. It is run by Society for Helpers of Needy, where 11 sisters nurture kids with care and love. The kids visit schools and colleges have set their routine for the day. Also, the kids on Children's Day will engage in various special activities.

"On Children's day, we would arrange yoga sessions for our kids and this would start early in the morning, after which special lunch and dinner would be provided to them, followed by DJ night as kids would dance on Bollywood numbers and have fun", said Sister Suman Pavartikaran, member of Maa Niketan. "We ensure that our kids feel special on the day, as many of them have been abandoned while few have old guardians to look after them. So, we take care of them and its our responsibility to give them love," said Sister Indumati, director of Maa Niketan.

Pooja Thakkar, 20, was brought to the orphanage by her aunt, when she was seven years old and was not told about her parents death. "We wait for special events and festivals, so that we enjoy and this year, we would do yoga as its good for health. We enjoy dancing on Bollywood songs. Also, we get special food on Children's Day", said Pooja Thakkar, an orphan. Kadambari Salunkhe, 17, a resident of Thane was brought by her ailing grandparents. "We normally have a set of routine for the day. We study and get less time to enjoy, but on Children's Day, we engage in a lot of cultural activities, along with food and music. Also, we would do yoga," said Salunkhe.
