Students of the National Association of the Blind (NAB) will form a human pyramid and break the Dahi Handi. But unlike other mandals, they are not doing it for money.
“They are doing it to overcome their own fears and to prove that they are like anyone else,” said Pooja Oberoi, trustee of an NGO, Khushiyan Seva Sanstha, who has been working with students of NAB for the past 15 years.
Around 20 visually impaired boys, in the age group of 18-25, wearing the NAB uniform of striped blue shirts and blue pants, will participate in the Dahi Handi at 11 am. “Each boy will be helped by a volunteer from the NGO. The Handi too will be hung at a more convenient height,” said Oberoi.
Although there is no prize money, we have arranged for gifts.
“Initially the boys were very scared. But once we gained their confidence, they were willing to give it a shot. They have been practicing for the past eight days,” she added.
