This Holi, the Mumbai traffic police are going to ensure that no traffic rules are flouted and will keep a close watch on incidents of eve-teasing. The traffic police said that they would be taking extensive measures on Sunday night and on Monday - the day of the festival. A team of traffic policemen will be posted at important points and also arterial roads to nab those errant motorists.
Pratap Dighavkar, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), said, "I have informed my staff to conduct a stringent drive on the day of Holi. Anybody found speeding, jumping signal, driving rashly and of course, drink-driving will be checked for. We are going to focus on bikers but others will also not be spared." Dighavkar further added that he has asked policemen to keep a close watch on incidents of eve-teasing. "The traffic police does not have the authority to arrest eve-teasers but we if we do find someone misbehaving then we will hand him over to the police." Along with this, the staff has ensured that women traffic police personnel are surrounded by their male colleagues to ensure that they do not fall prey to gang on inebriated men.
There is already and ongoing drive initiated by the traffic police from last week of February, for those who are found violating traffic rules. The drive is being carried out at several pockets in the city and if the traffic police are to be believed then this is going to be a continuous thing to bring in a change of behaviour among motorists, who do not take the rules and this leads to mishaps and traffic jams.
