Three dead, four seriously injured in road mishaps in Pune

In an accident at Narhe, the driver of a goods carrier was killed on the spot and four passengers seriously injured after their vehicle rammed into a truck.

In an accident at Narhe, on the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass early on Thursday, the driver of a goods carrier was killed on the spot and four passengers seriously injured after their vehicle rammed into a truck. In two other cases, two youths were killed in hit-and-run cases.

In the mishap at Narhe, the deceased has been identified as Mahadev Sangappa Singare (35), a resident of Islampur in Sangli district. The injured are Ramesh Gallappa Survase (37) of Miraj, his wife Mangal (32), daughter Anuradha (8) and helper Abdul Ganibhai Nidawane (19).

According to the police, the Survases were going to meet their relative in Tathawde, near Wakad. They were seated in the cabin of the goods carrier, going from the new Katraj tunnel towards Mumbai.

The driver tried to overtake a truck without giving any signal, lost control over his vehicle and rammed the truck and then the road divider. The passengers were trapped in the goods carrier and were rescued by fire brigade personnel.

They were rushed to a nearby hospital, where all are stated to be in critical condition, the police said.

Two youths were killed in  hit-and-run accidents in the last 72 hours. On Tuesday  at 2.30 pm, an unidentified mini-truck hit a motorcyclist near Bank of Maharashtra’s  branch in Shivajinagar.
The deceased, Harish Suresh Bhutada (22)  is a resident of Sadashiv Peth. He was not wearing a helmet.
A pedestrian, Dattatray Rajaram Mane (39), was killed by an unidentified four-wheeler in Warje Malwadi at 7.45 am on Tuesday. He was on a morning walk.
