Toddler killed by leopard in Pune

A two-and-half-year-old baby, Yash Khatal, was killed in a leopard attack on Friday in Dhandarphal Khurd village of Sangamner taluka in Ahmednagar district.

Yash had gone out of his house to attend nature's call. He was with his mother, barely 10 feet away from the sugarcane field when a leopard suddenly pounced on him. The boy was dragged in the fields even before his mother could raise an alarm.

The mother shouted for help and the family members ran after the leopard. Hearing the noises, the leopard dropped the boy and ran away. The body of Yash was found about half a kilometre away. He died on the spot.

"As per the provisions, we have announced a compensation of Rs two lakh for the bereaved family", stated range forest officer, Sangamner, Suresh Daund.
