Two arrested for chain snatching in Pune

The Sahakarnagar police have arrested two persons for snatching the chain of a one-and-a-half-year-old boy.

The suspects have been identified as Akshay Ramchandra Ghanvat (25) and Sanjay Kiran Dagade (25).

While Ghanvat, a native of Ahmendnagar, was residing in Kondhwa Khurd, Dagade, who hails from Shalgaon in Solapur, was living in Mahadevnagar slum area in Kondwa Khurd. On Saturday, the suspects were produced before the judicial

magistrate (first class) and remanded in police custody till Tuesday.

Senior inspector MS Gavade, who is also in charge of Sahakarnagar police station, said, “ The suspects were caught red-handed by the citizens. They snatched the chain from one-and-a-half-year-old arsh when he was returning home with his mother Jayashree Sarode (23), a resident of Pushpalata Apartment in Dhankavdi on September 7 around 7 pm.      

The chain weighed three grams and is worth of Rs6,000. The duo was on a motorbike, but alert citizens nabbed the suspects.” The incident came to light after Jayashree lodged a first information report (FIR) with the Sahakarnagar police the next day.

“City police commissioner, Meeran Chadha-Borwankar, felicitated the alert citizens on Friday,” the police said. “We are investigating the case. The suspects are seasonal employees and have been camping in the city for three months now. We are also probing their links with two other chain-snatching incidents that took place earlier,” the police said.
