The LT Marg police on Monday arrested a youth for allegedly assaulting a police constable and molesting his wife. He was later released on bail.

The couple had come to a South Mumbai restaurant, when the youth and his friend allegedly misbehaved with the woman. The police are searching for the youth’s friend.

Mustafa Boranwala is a resident of Mohammad Ali Road.

The police said that constable Dhananjay Borse, who is attached with the local arms division II of the Mumbai police, visited Bawarchi restaurant near GT Hospital with his wife on Monday night. The couple went to the restaurant’s family room on the first floor, where the two youths were sitting with a girl.

“When Borse’s wife was waiting for him to return from the washroom, she felt someone touching her back and, before she could react, a small piece of paper was thrown at her. The paper contained two cell phone numbers. On looking back, she saw the two youths and the 15-year-old girl,” said an officer.

The officer added that when she told her husband about the alleged misbehaviour, one of the two youths, Salim Shaikh, had gone downstairs. When Borse asked Boranwala, he said he had not misbehaved. Borse then came out of the restaurant to search for Shaikh.

“He spotted Shaikh outside and went to talk to him. Shaikh, however, manhandled Borse. Boranwala also joined him. When Borse’s wife tried to intervene, the duo allegedly molested her. A police van patrolling nearby rushed to the spot and nabbed Boranwala, while Shaikh managed to escape,” said the officer.
