The Pune police crime branch has arrested two history-sheeters who had attacked police constables at Ajmera Colony in Pimpri on August 8.

The suspects have been identified as Sunil Yallapa Shivpure (25) and Durgesh Krishna Shriram (30).

After receiving a call from the police control room about the presence of burglars in Ajmera Colony, a team sent from the Pimpri police station was attacked by three robbers when the policemen visited the residential colony to nab them at around 3.30 am on August 8.

The suspects had left their motorcycle before fleeing. An FIR was lodged with the Pimpri police station.

The anti-organised crime cell of the crime branch traced the motorcycle owner: an Iranian student, Makhtomi Mohammed Araj Dordi, who had left India three years ago. The police found that the bike was later sold to another person through Shivneri Auto Consultant in Rasta Peth, and the suspect was its 12th owner.

Additional commissioner of police (crime), AD Shinde, said Dordi gave valuable information over phone that helped in the probe. “A search is on to nab the third suspect,” he said.

The crime branch team led by inspector Balkrishna Kutval and assistant inspector Arvind Gokule cracked the case and arrested the suspects from Solapur on Wednesday.

Shivpure is involved in 36 crimes of dacoity and house break-ins in Pune and Solapur, while Shriram is involved in 17 house break-ins in Pune city.

Four held for abducting manager
The Chakan police have arrested four men for allegedly abducting a manager of a Chakan-based private company, Prasanna Kadam (49), robbing and extorting him of Rs1.42 lakh. They had demanded Rs10 lakh from him.

The arrested men include Rajendra Sopan Mahabre (23) of Junnar, Santosh Ganpat Kamble (24) of Awasari Budruk in Ambegaon taluka, Rajesh Bhalerao (25) of Ambegaon and Pandharinath Dattatray Chavan (27) of Wadaj, in Junnar taluka.

The police said Kadam is a manager of Mungi Engineering based in Kharalwadi area of Chakan. On July 20, he was on his way home in Talegaon Dabhade when the suspects on two motorcycles stopped and confronted him for rash driving.

The police sub-inspector of Chakan police station, Madhukar Thorat, said the suspects got into Kadam’s car and forced him to head to Shikrapur. “They stopped the car at a dhaba and took him to a sugarcane farm. They beat him up and robbed him of Rs16,000,” he said.

The suspects also took away his gold chain, watch and an automated teller machine (ATM) card. They withdrew money from an ATM in Shikrapur. The suspects then demanded Rs10 lakh for his release. Kadam called up his relatives and asked them to arrange for the money.

Thorat said, “Kadam’s relatives deposited Rs1 lakh in his account. The suspects withdrew the money from different ATMs in Chakan area,” he said, adding that the suspects threatened to kill his family members if he approached the police. He was then released.

However on July 26, Kadam lodged a complaint at Chakan police station. Senior police inspector Sushil Kadam of Chakan police station said, “We checked the call details of Kadam and nabbed the suspects in Bhosari. During investigation, the suspects also admitted that they had planned to abduct other businessmen of Chakan industrial area.”
