Two cousins drowned while bathing in a lake in Navi Mumbai on Thursday.

The police said Shah Rukh Khan, 17, and Bargat Khan, 21, had headed off to take a bath in a lake in Kalamboli village around 7.30am. About four hours later, the sarpanch and other villagers noticed buckets lying unattended by the lake. The boys were nowhere to be seen.

After the Kalamboli police were called in, they fished the bodies of the duo out of the lake.

The boys ran a general merchandise store with a brother, Salim Khan. They reportedly used to bathe at the lake every day.
The Khans had moved from Rajasthan to Kalamboli just four months ago. A police officer said since neither Shah Rukh nor Bargat knew how to swim, they bathed only by the steps leading to the lake.

On Thursday evening, Salim claimed the bodies and left for Rajasthan, where their last rites will be performed by the family.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and have ruled out foul play in the drowning.
