The city crime branch sleuths have arrested two persons for allegedly making hoax calls claiming bombs have been at the Moksh Plaza mall in Borivli and Borivli railway station. The arrested duo has been identified as Shahbaz Alam Jalauddin Ansari and Mohammad Ibrahim Malik.

On January 16, the police had received a phone call at the main control room wherein the caller claimed that a bomb had been kept at Moksh Plaza mall on SV Road in Borivli. Following the call, a police team, the bomb detection squad and a dog squad rushed to the spot. However, even after one and a half hours of search no explosive was found.

After this incident, another call was made from a mobile number to the police. The caller this time claimed that explosives are kept at platform number five of Borivli railway station. The police team again conducted a search but found nothing. The Borivli police then registered a case in this regard against unknown persons for providing false information to the police and creating fear among citizens.

The police team then went through the call detail records and tower locations of the mobile phone numbers that were used to make the hoax calls. "Based on the tower locations, we took Ansari and Malik in our custody from Jogeshwari. Inquiry revealed that they were involved in making the calls," said a crime branch officer.

As per the police, they were making these calls just to harass the police. The police have seized two mobile phones and Sim cards from them. The phones were stolen by them and they had bought new Sim cards to make the calls to the police, sources said.

"Investigation also revealed that Ansari had called a woman and a few other persons from the stolen phones and abused them. The duo was produced before the Borvili court which sent them to police custody. We have handed over their custody to Borivli police for further probe. A minor is also involved in this case and he is yet to be traced," the officer said.
