About two lakh more voters, including 40% of youth, have been included in the voters
list in suburban Mumbai after the Lok Sabh elections.

"Altogether 69,48,545 voters were registered for the Lok Sabha polls. The number has increased by 2,29,663 voters, of which 40% are youth," suburban collector Vishwas
Patil said. He credited the special drive by the collector's office, NGOs and colleges for the increase in voter registrations.

However, only 56% of voters have election identity cards in the district, Patil told reporters at his office in suburban Bandra. "The Mumbai suburban district has maximum floating population, but we are trying our best to attract more voters to register," he said.

The collector also announced the start of an online system for registration and voter IDs soon. On the issue of ration cards to be allowed as IDs, Patil said special rationing officers would check the validity of cards whenever needed.

The number of suburban assembly constituencies have also increased after delimitation to 26, Patil said. Chandivali is the biggest constituency in the district with 3,48,010 voters, and Anushakti Nagar the smallest, with 1,72,000 voters, he said.
