In a surprise inspection of Churchgate station and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on Friday, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal was irked by the flags and posters of railway unions displayed on the 129-year-old heritage structure of CSMT and remarked that they are an eyesore.
He also observed loopholes in the maintenance of the UNESCO World Heritage structure.
Sources from Central Railway (CR) said that Goyal found triangular flags and posters of different unions pasted on the walls of the CSMT building.
"He was furious over this and called up General Manager DK Sharma and gave them an earful," said a CR official.
Sharma along with other rail officials rushed to inspect the heritage building on Saturday, held a meeting with the various unions and asked them to remove the flags and posters.
The unions protested on Monday by stating their views in Hindi on a blackboard, opposed Goyal's 'dictatorial' orders and asked him to revoke his decision.
