Students will be able to access facilities at IIT, TIFR and BARC
There’s good news for students pursuing graduate and post-graduate courses from the University of Mumbai and nine other state-run universities. As the universities have decided to collaborate with renowned institutes like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), students will be able to access the institutes’ facilities and benefit from their faculty lectures.
This was announced on the eve of the 81st annual meet of vice-chancellors from various universities commencing on Saturday. As part of the collaboration, researchers from IIT, TIFR and BARC will take up projects of university students graduating in PhD and MPhil.
“Even students studying in colleges affiliated to the University of Mumbai can seek access to the faculty of these institutes,” said Vijay Khole, vice-chancellor of the University.
Mumbai University with help of experts from IIT-Bombay has also framed a five-year integrated course in basic sciences. Officials said the course, which would begin next year, will provide a degree equivalent to a MSc. Dayanand Dongaokar, general secretary of the Association of Indian Universities, said the technical institutes will also hold short educational summer camps. University teachers will be trained by faculty from IIT, TIFR and BARC.
