Yesteryear actor Vidya Sinha on Wednesday filed a complaint alleging that her 70-year-old husband, a doctor, was harassing her mentally and physically.

Netaji Bhimrao Salunkhe was arrested late on Wednesday night. He was later released on a bail of Rs10,000. He has been booked under the Indian Penal Code for subjecting Vidya to cruelty.

Vidya has given hit movies like Rajnigandha; Pati, Patni Aur Woh; and Chhoti Si Baat. She has also acted in television serials like Kavyanjali; Bahu Rani; Zaara and Bhabhi.

In her complaint to the Versova police, Vidya, 61, said that she had befriended Salunkhe on the internet in 2001. “We regularly chatted on the net,” Vidya said.

Salunkhe, an MS, shuttles between Sydney and Mumbai. She met him during one of his visits to the city, she said. “Subsequently, we met whenever he came to Mumbai.” She married him in a temple after a brief courtship, Vidya said.

Vidya was earlier married to Venkateshwaran Iyer, who died in 1996. She then quit the film industry to raise her daughter Janvi. Salunkhe’s wife died a few years ago; his children are settled in Australia, the police said.

“After marriage, Vidya and Salunkhe stayed together in a flat at the Mhada Colony in Four Bungalows in Andheri,” investigating officer S Patel of the Versova police station said.

In her complaint, she said that things were good between them after marriage. However, over the past few months, her husband was physically and mentally torturing her and demanding money from her, she said in her complaint.
