The civic body has announced water cuts in A, B, E, F/north and F/south wards in order to carry out connection of two major pipelines at Sion - Matunga. This will result in water cuts in central Mumbai and in South Mumbai on Friday. Along with the citizens, several private hospitals and nursing homes and more than 8 State Government and BMC run hospitals will have to go without water on that day.

The wards facing water cut includes Sion Hospital, K.E.M. Hospital, M G M Hospital, Tata Hospital, Wadia Hospital, T. B. Hospital, J. J. Hospital, St. Georges Hospital. This apart,  even CST railway station will not get water supply during this time period of 12 hours between 10.00 am - 10.00 pm on Friday.

Ashok Tavadia, Hydraulic Engineer of the Water Department of the BMC explained that the new water pipeline has been laid to replace the old and corroded pipeline which had several leakage points. To resolve the problem,
the water department has laid 900 mm diameter new pipeline near Sion Hospital, which will be connected to 1800 mm diameter main pipeline near Aurora Theatre. "For this, the department would need at least 12 hours to complete the job.

Though the timings are chosen during the day time, we will ensure that minimum effect is experienced to the consumers. However, with the new pipeline, the problem of frequent leakages and complaints of less pressure will be addressed. This new pipeline will improve water supply in all the areas connected", said Tavadia Civic administration has requested the citizens to store water in advance and use water judiciously on Friday.
