With a view to provide uninterrupted train services during the ensuing monsoon, Western Railways has undertaken work of desilting and cleaning of drains and culverts and waterproofing of the EMU rakes.
"Out of 43 culverts, cleaning of 30 culverts has been completed. Work at water logging prone areas between Charni Road and Grant Road and at Virar is on," a Western Railway official said.
A total of 55 water pumps have been installed at several areas to pump out water, he said.
Work of desilting of the drains running parallel to the railway tracks has also been undertaken.
Meanwhile, 35 trains on the western line have been converted from nine coach to 12 coach to reduce crowd, the official said.
