Files case against in-laws, who suspected her of having an extra-marital affair

A 26-year-old housewife filed a complaint against her husband and in-laws for allegedly harassing and assaulting her. According to the police, the victim Pratima had been married to Parshuram Dubey, 28, eight years ago in Uttar Pradesh.

Parshuram reportedly suspected her of having an extra-marital affair with someone due to which the family harassed her. The three accused have been identified as Bharatkumar Dubey, 30, Laxminarayan Dubey, 40, and Krishna Dubey, 24.

Pratima came from Uttar Pradesh to stay with Parshuram, an electrician, at their Borivali house a few months back. She told in her statement to the police that every time she spoke to any of her relatives back home, her husband taunted her about having a lover, said a police official. “She also said in her statement that if she as much as spoke to another man, her in-laws would assault her,” added the official.

“On Friday, when she was beaten by her husband again, she ran out from her house,” said senior police inspector RR Thakur of the Kasturba Marg police station. “While she was standing injured, on the western express highway, an unknown person got her admitted to a private hospital where she rested till the next morning. Later, she went to her sister’s house in Kalyan,” said Thakur.

“Before the incident, the victim’s father had also come to Mumbai to speak with her husband about the family harassing her. He was staying at one of his relative’s house and was informed about the incident,” said a police officer.

The sister’s family and her father then approached the Kasturba Marg police station and a complaint against her husband and in-laws was lodged. “We have arrested her husband and three brothers for harassing and assaulting her,” added an officer.
