The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB), which is executing the ferry service project, between Nariman Point in south Mumbai and Gorai in Borivali, has said that it is working towards making the proposed ferry rides more affordable for common people to motivate them into using the mode of water transportation.
The MMB has been working on the project for years but it still exists only on paper. The board said a few companies have shown interest in operating the ferry service despite the western part being an open sea with choppy waters and high wind speed.
"Ferry services between Nariman Point and Gorai are feasible. But the cost involved in such options is comparatively higher. Hence, we are aiming to have maximum facilities in affordable rates considering it will be a public transport. Recently, a few companies have approached us showing interest," said Vikram Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of MMB.
