The Bhosari police on Sunday caught Mangala Bhopade (55), a political worker, while distributing money in the Hirbai Slum near Kasarwadi railway lines.Bhopade is said to have confessed that she was distributing money at the behest of Govind Gavade, husband of independent corporator of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Sushma Gavade. Sushma is a corporator from Kasarwadi.

Rajesh Baban Mote, an aspirant from the same area, had tipped off the police about the situation.

The police then conducted a surprise raid in the slums and caught Bhopade. They also recovered Rs13,000 from her.

While talking to DNA, Mote, said, “Distribution of money was going on unabated in the Kasarwadi slums since the past few days. On Sunday, we came to know that it was happening again at around 3 pm and immediately alerted the police.”

During interrogation, Bhopade claimed that on Friday, Govind had given her Rs1 lakh to distribute it in the slums of Kasarwadi and Kalewadi.

However, Gavade denied any links with Bhopade and claimed that it was a deliberate attempt on the part of her political opponents to defame her.
