In a classic case of revenge, a married woman and her paramour stole Rs18.35 lakh from her husband’s Mazgaon house. She wanted to settle a score with her husband and his family, and start life anew with her lover. Their happy ending however was cut short by the police.
“Samiksha Pawar, 26, a housewife and paramour Ashok Gamare, 25, a sanitary worker in BMC, were arrested for theft on Thursday. We recovered Rs17.50 lakh which Gamare kept at his friend’s house at Andheri,” said sub-inspector Mahesh Paradkar of Byculla police station. Pawar was released on bail while Gamare has been remanded in police custody for two days.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Pawar, a mother of two, had been quarrelling with her husband and in laws for the past four years.
Sub inspector Arun Dhanawade of Byculla police station said that Mazgaon resident Ramchandra Pawar, 61, (Samiksha’s father in law) had sold his old house at Nagpada on August 4, 2011 for Rs.18.50 lakh. Among the cash, he paid cash Rs5000 as advance to Sai Constructions in Thane on August 26 to buy a room. Later, he gave Rs10,000 to his younger brother Mahendra Pawar on September 25 before going to his native place at Ratnagiri on next day.
When he returned on October 4, he found the money was missing. He then lodged a complaint of theft, suspecting his daughter-in-law Samiksha. He told police that Samiksha had left her husband’s house on September 30 after a fight and was staying with her parents.
During interrogation, Samiksha broke down and confessed to the crime and told that stolen cash was with Gamare, added Paradkar.
