The Shivaji snack stall that set up base outside of Mithibai college over 35 years ago, has since firmly established its brand of vada pav, across the suburbs. Started by a certain Mr Nainar and now being run by his son, Anand Nainar, the stall gets thousands of customers per day.
The “vada pav chef” Ramesh says, “I have worked here for over two decades now. I remember when the plain vada pav cost under a rupee; today it is costs Rs 15.”
Listing their specialties, he adds, “The Szechwan and the cheese szechwan vada pav are probably the most popular with the college students. And even though, we now also sell sandwiches, dosas and other snacks, the vada pav still remains the most popular. We make over thousand vada pav daily.”
Talking about their celeb clientele, he quips, “We have actors like Vivek Oberoi, Raza Murad and many others who have had vada pav at our stall. We have also won a couple of awards. Just recently, we were awarded a trophy by Shabana Azmi and once earlier we were given an award by Jackie Shroff as well.”
