Gangster Munna Bajrangi has confessed to killing over 50 people in the past 20 years, said police sources.

Gangster Munna Bajrangi, who was arrested on Thursday from Malad, has confessed to killing over 50 people in the past 20 years, said police sources.

“Bajrangi confessed he had killed more than 50 people till now. He will be interrogated in all these cases,” a senior police officer said, adding, “He used to extract money from politicians and businessman. He is also a close aide of Mukhtar Ansari.”

Bajrangi, who carried a reward of Rs7 lakh on his head, stayed with his wife and children in a high-profile residential society in Malad for the past six years. He was staying in Malad under his real name Prem Prakash Singh. His accomplice, Mahender alias Shetty, was also arrested.

“He never used a mobile phone. If he made calls, he used to destroy the phone soon after,” said a police officer.

In 1996, he allegedly murdered BJP leader Ramachandra Singh in Jaunpur and in 2003, he murdered another BJP leader Anil Rai in Varanasi. In 2005, he murdered BJP legislator Krishnanand Rai along with his seven bodyguards.

“Bajrangi had been underground for the past seven years. Nobody ever complained against him. He was finally caught when a Delhi businessman told us that he was trying to extort money from him,” said a police officer.

Delhi police commissioner YS Dadwal said they would also be interrogating him for the murder of an “encounter specialist” and assistant commissioner of police Rajbir Singh last year.

“We would be interrogating him for everything,” said Dadwal. However, the CBI which investigated the murder failed to find any evidence against him. He added, “The CBI and UP police also want to interrogate him.”

CBI has declared a reward of Rs5 lakh for his arrest in the Krishnanad Rai murder. While the Uttar Pradesh has put Rs2 lakh for Bajrangi involvement in cases related to murder, extortion, robbery, abduction and arms act.
