7th Pay Commission: The Modi government is set to grant a significant pre-Navratri gift to central employees and pensioners on October 4, 2023. During a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, an approval for increasing the dearness allowance of central employees and pensioners is anticipated.
Likely approval for dearness allowance increase
On October 4, 2023 both the Union Cabinet and the Economic Affairs Committee of the Cabinet will convene at 10:30 am. It is expected that the Modi government may raise the dearness allowance for central employees and pensioners during this meeting. This decision is crucial because the Election Commission may announce the dates for assembly elections in five states at any time. The imposition of the code of conduct will follow the announcement of election dates, making it challenging for the government to make this decision.
A potential 3 percent increase in dearness allowance
Central employees and pensioners have been awaiting a dearness allowance increase since July. The central government may raise the dearness allowance from 42 percent to 45 percent, effective from July 1. The salary for October is expected to include the dearness allowance increase, and arrears for the period from July to September may also be disbursed to central employees along with the October salary.
A timely gift before Navratri!
The Navratri festival commences on October 15, with Dussehra falling on October 24. Additionally, the Election Commission could announce assembly election dates at any moment. Hence, it is anticipated that the decision to increase the dearness allowance for central employees and pensioners will be made on Wednesday. This decision by the Central Government will benefit 47 lakh employees and 68 lakh pensioners, providing them with relief from the burden of rising inflation.
