Central employees get an allowance for the education of their children which amounts to Rs 2,250 per month as per the 7th Pay Commission

The Centre has some more good news for its employees. After increasing the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) to more than one crore central employees and pensioners, the centre has now decided that employees who could not claim the Children Education Allowance (CEA) due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic can now claim it without presenting any official documents.

For those who don't know, the Central employees get an allowance for the education of their children which amounts to Rs 2,250 per month as per the 7th Pay Commission.

The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued an Office of Memorandum (OM) this year in July itself when the DA and DR were increased that many Central employees have faced difficulties in claiming CEA because even after depositing the fees online, the result/report cards were not sent from the school through SMS/e-mail.

Later, the DoPT stated that the CEA can be claimed through self-declaration or printout of result/report card/sms/e-mail of fee payment. However, this facility will be available only for the academic year ending in March 2020-2021.

Central employees are entitled to a Children Education Allowance (CEA) for the education of two children, this allowance per child is Rs 2,250 per month and for two it becomes Rs 4,500 per month.

The employees need to submit a copy of the school certificate to claim the amount. In the certificate, it is declared that the child studies in that particular school along with the academic year. Parents can use the child's report card, self-attested copy and fee receipt for the claim.
