Every EPFO subscriber gets their own UAN number and PF numbers for their provident fund account. But did you know the PF account numbers have hidden meanings? 

PF account numbers contain alphabets along with digits and they are called alphanumeric numbers. It contains information in both alphabets and digits. An alphanumeric number contains the details of the state, regional office, establishment (company), and PF member code.

Let's understand what information an alphanumeric number has with an example:

XX stands codes for the state
XXX codes the region
1234567 is the Establishment Code
XX1 – Extension (if any)
7654321 – Account Number

While PF account changes every time for different organisation and with that the PF account number, the every EPFO subscriber has a Universal Account Number (UAN), which is unique and never change. An EPFO subscriber can see the details of their PF accounts in one UAN.

You can check PF Balance through SMS

To check your PF balance, you can do the process without hustle and internet and get the balance through SMS. Type 'EPFOHO UAN' in the message box and sent it to 7738299899. After this, you will receive your EPF balance on your phone. You can also give a missed call on 011-22901406 from the registered mobile number to know the EPF balance.
