Rare 50 paise coin sells for a whopping amount in auction - Details inside

A 50 paise coin minted with the design of iconic Kew Gardens of the UK on one side has been sold for as much GBP 142 or around Rs 15,000. The amount is 284 times more than the face value of the rare 50 paise coin. 

The coin was sold for GBP 142 in an auction at eBay. The rare coin was released in 2009 and it features the famous ‘Chinese Pagoda’ from the famous London landmark. Only 210,000 coins were released by the British government to mark 250 years of opening of iconic Kew Gardens. Since these 50 paise coins are rare in circulation now they are very valuable for collectors, who do not mind to shell out a good amount of money to own the rare coins.

The rare coin attracted 37 bids during the auction on eBay. The auction last for around three days. The bidding started on September 9 and ended on GBP 142 after 37 bids.

The seller of the rare coin also offered free delivery of the coin to the lucky winner. The seller has described the coin as “circulated but in good condition” while listing it as “Rare 2009 Genuine Kew Gardens 50p Coin."

It is to be noted that the Kew Gardens 50 paise coin is considered the rarest.
